There are different kinds of website with different contents in the net. However, not all will actually make you a fortune but it does help in making some money. There are three basic types of website that most of the people use to make money with adsense.
Commercial Websites
This kind of websites are specially build to promote or sell product by company. The owner of website always concerned of putting ads into their site. I agreed that intrusive ads might annoy visitors that visit the site but if proper planning or putting the most relevant ads might also getting revenue as site income.
Information Focused Websites
Information sites are the most suitable sites to put adsense. This is because adsense always looking for most relevant contents for it ads. For example, if you created a website that's teaching people about the usage of Antivirus software and the dangerous of unwanted intrusion - adsense will probably put ads that most related to antivirus, virus attack, hacking and etc. By doing this, visitors will most probably click on ads that place in the sites. However, you still need to be smart to place your ads at suitable corner of your site.
Blogs
Blogs are intended for people to put what their think or what have been happen around them into web. Putting adsense in blog might bring some revenue if the contents of the blogs are specific in particular topic or event. However, regular update of blogs contents also makes it suitable to work with adsense.
In short, you don't have to own another Google, Ebay, Yahoo or even Amazon to make you a fortune. But you have to think ways to attract people to come to your website. When hit rate getting high, thats mean the possibility people read your ads might be higher.
